The National Specialty is being held in Louisville, KY, this year and is in tribute to beloved AKC Judge Beverly Lehnig. Beverly passed on last year and was a long-time Silky Terrier fancier/breeder. She even wrote a book about the breed. Beverly was an all-breed judge and is missed by many. Ch Shalee Tawnymist Royal Silk, ROMX (pictured) is the only Silky Terrier that Beverly Lehnig ever awarded a Best In Show to.
Silky Terrier fanciers will be attending from around the United States and from as far away as Australia. Our national changes regions each year and there are competitions in Agility, Obedience, Confirmation as well as seminars and our annual meetings.
I was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, and raised in Boise, ID, where I met and married my husband of 40 years. We have 4 children; all are married except the youngest son and we have 8 grandchildren. I began showing Silky Terriers when we lived in Northern CA in 1990; we moved to Oklahoma in 1991. I was very lucky to begin with a wonderful foundation and have great mentors in the Silky Terrier Breed. I have had many successes in the show ring; i.e. my most famous Silky is Ch Shalee Tawnymist Royal Silk, ROMX. He is the sire of top Terriers in Europe and top Toys in the U.S. and Australia. Roy is a breeders dream.
I work for a Non-profit in Oklahoma City and find it very rewarding work. I am blessed to work with people who want to help each other; it doesn't get much better than that.
